Do guinea pig owners know enough?
Only three per cent of guinea pig owners insure their animals, new research has found.
The Great British Guinea Pig Census, carried out by Burgess Pet Care, surveyed over 5000 guinea pig owners to identify any areas of widespread misunderstanding, and to help raise awareness and improve understanding of the species
It found a third of owners take their guinea pigs to the vet less than once a year; 97 per cent of owners do not have their guinea pig insured; and 76 per cent of owners believe feeding hay is the most important part of their guinea pig’s diet.
Encouragingly, 88 per cent of owners kept at least two guinea pigs, and of the owners who had just one, nearly three-quarters would consider welcoming another.
