Parliamentary inquiry launched into puppy trade

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee (EFRACom) has launched a new inquiry into the puppy smuggling trade.

The inquiry follows the committee’s 2017 report – Animal Welfare in England: domestic pets – which examined the illegal importation of puppies and concluded that the current scheme for pet travel was providing a ‘vehicle for the illegal importation of puppies’.
