Anaesthetic agents are ‘bad for the planet’

There is no justification for using two environmentally damaging volatile anaesthetic agents, an environmentalist and vet has said.

Eleanor West, a European specialist in anaesthesia and analgesia, said at a BVA congress talk last week (held during the London Vet Show) on ‘greening’ the veterinary profession that vets should not use nitrous oxide and desflurane to anaesthetise patients because they are bad for the planet.
