VMD provides clarity on the cascade

The regulator for veterinary medicines has released a flow chart designed to show what steps vets should follow when using the cascade.

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) published the chart (pictured right) alongside fresh guidance about the process that vets should use when prescribing medicines.

It decided to release the information after receiving an ‘increasing number of enquiries recently about the cascade and in particular the use of unauthorised medicines.’

This is believed to be the first time that the VMD has proactively released an easy to understand chart of this kind. It follows previous confusion in certain quarters of the profession about what steps should be followed and when.
