‘UK food standards must become law now’

National Farmers’ Union (NFU) president Minette Batters has urged Defra to legislate to make it impossible for British farming practices to be undermined by imports from countries where food and animal welfare rules are more lax.

She challenged environment secretary Michael Gove at the Oxford Farming Conference last week to take concrete steps to stop the UK from being flooded with cheap imports after Brexit.
