The Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of Surrey and Veterinary Schools Council have echoed concerns raised in an open letter from the Russell Group to MPs warning of negative consequences arising from a no-deal Brexit.
The Russell Group, which represents two dozen leading UK universities, including six universities with vet schools (Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and Nottingham), warned that leaving the EU without a deal would constitute one of the biggest threats UK universities have ever faced.
The warning comes as MPs prepare to vote on the Brexit deal Theresa May has negotiated with the EU next week.
RVC principal Stuart Reid said his institution had been working to mitigate the impact of a no deal, among other scenarios. However, he implored politicians to ‘put party politics aside in reaching the best decision for the nation.’
