Welfare concerns over UK-USA trade deal

American farming is being cast in ‘the worst possible light’ as part of a ‘smear campaign’ by opponents of a future UK-USA trade deal, the American ambassador to the UK has said.

Woody Johnson dismissed as ‘scare stories’ attacks on chlorine-washed chicken and hormone-injected beef, arguing that global population growth and increasing demand for US food products justified moves to increase production.
