An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has recently been reported in China.1 This first case of ASF was reported on 1 August, 2018 in Shenyang City, Liaoning province. Since then, three more ASF outbreaks were officially announced (VR, 1 September 2018, vol 183, p 248) in Zhengzhou City of Henan province (14 August, 2018), Lianyungang City of Jiangsu province (15 August, 2018), and Leqing City of Zhejiang province (17 August, 2018) (Fig 1).
