A new educational framework for advanced level nursing is being proposed by the RCVS and vet professionals are being asked for their views on it.
The college has launched a consultation on the framework that it has developed for two new post-registration qualifications for nurses – a graduate certificate and postgraduate certificate in advanced veterinary nursing.
The new courses will be at levels six and seven, offering candidates a route to obtaining recordable, transferable qualifications that are recognised by the higher education system.
Currently the RCVS offers nurses the option of getting an advanced diploma in veterinary nursing, but this is not recognised by higher education institutions. Its syllabus was due for a review anyway, so the new replacement courses are an effective upgrade.
