Antibiotic use targets: how is each sector doing?

The livestock industry as a whole is making good progress with its antibiotic targets, but there is great variation between sectors in the amount of progress made.

That was the conclusion reached by Chris Lloyd, the Responsible Use of Medicines in Agriculture Alliance’s (RUMA’s) secretary general, in a progress report on the alliance’s targets for reducing antibiotic use, published last week.

Some sectors have greatly reduced their antibiotic use, with many already reaching their 2020 targets.

For example, the gamebird sector has already achieved its target of halving its antibiotic use.
