What did the research find?

The study found that there was a significant association between the presence of kyphosis (convex curvature of the spine) and the occurrence of intervertebral disc extrusion (IVDE) among French bulldogs, particularly in the thoracolumbar region.

French bulldogs with kyphosis had two times the risk of IVDE than those without kyphosis. However, there was no association found between IVDE and scoliosis (sideways curvature of the spine).

How was it conducted?

The study compared the MRI scans of 77 French bulldogs diagnosed with thoracolumbar or cervical IVDE with a control group of 101 French bulldogs that underwent CT of the thoracic vertebrae for reasons not related to spinal disease. …
