Professor the Lord Alexander Trees of the Ross was made a honorary member of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association during its AGM in April. He is the only vet to sit in the House of Lords and is veterinary editor-in-chief of this journal. After graduating in 1969, he undertook a research expedition to Kenya before working in practice, did a PhD on bovine babesiosis and then joined Elanco in Rome, Italy, as veterinary adviser for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. In 1980 he joined the University of Liverpool, ultimately becoming professor of veterinary parasitology and dean of the vet school. He has served as president of the RCVS and is a member of the executive committee of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology. He has been chairman of the Moredun Research Institute since December 2011 and is an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
