BVZS calls on the RCVS to reinstate its diploma in zoological medicine

Exotic and zoo vets have asked the RCVS to reinstate its diploma of zoological medicine to create more opportunities for postgraduate training.

The British Veterinary Zoological Society (BVZS) has submitted a letter to the college signed by 125 members asking for an alternative qualification to the diplomas offered by the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM).

RCVS diplomas were phased out in 2012 as low numbers of candidates in many specialities made it difficult to benchmark and determine consistent exam standards.

At the time, European diplomas were said to offer the best alternative despite the college admitting that the syllabus might not match its RCVS equivalent.
