THE sale of ivory items of any age could be banned in the UK under Government plans announced last week.
There is currently a ban on the sale of ivory items produced after 1947, but the sale of ‘worked’ items (works of art, ornaments) created before this date is permitted.
The new plans, which were announced by environment secretary Michael Gove, will make it illegal to sell ivory of any age.
