INVESTIGATIONS are underway to establish whether a mass die-off of an endangered Mongolian antelope was due to peste des petits ruminants (PPR). The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reported on January 27 that samples taken from the carcases of some 900 saiga antelopes (Saiga tatarica mongolica) that were found dead in Mongolia's western Khovd province indicated that the animals were positive for PPR.
