Animal establishments: what might the new licensing legislation look like?

DEFRA is planning to roll out a new framework for the licensing of animal establishments in autumn 2018.

This new framework will replace the existing regime, which is over 60 years old, and considered no longer ‘fit for purpose’ due to a plethora of animal business types that didn't exist when the legislation was written.

Defra announced proposals to change animal licensing legislation in February this year (VR, Feb 11, 2017, vol 180, 132) following a consultation in 2015.
