ON July 28, 2016, Marian Horzinek, emeritus professor of virology and virus diseases. Professor Horzinek studied veterinary medicine in Germany at Giessen and Hannover universities from 1956 to 1961. A year later he obtained his Drmedvet, and in 1970 he gained his Habilitation (a PhD equivalent) in virology.
Michael Day, chair of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Vaccination Guidelines Group, and other representatives of the WSAVA, write: We are greatly saddened by the death of Marian Horzinek on July 28, 2016, aged 79. One of the world's most distinguished veterinarians and scientists, he was revered around the world, particularly for his work in veterinary virology. He was also a true friend of the WSAVA.
