A RESEARCH paper published online in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases represents ‘the culmination of years of work’, according to the chief executive of a British charity that is working towards the elimination of dog-mediated rabies in people. Luke Gamble, of Mission Rabies, said that the paper, ‘The vaccination of 35,000 dogs in 20 working days using combined static point and door-to-door methods in Blantyre, Malawi’, showed that it was possible to put into practice the World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended target of vaccinating at least 70 per cent of the dog population in an affected area.
