Winning images from the BVA's photography competition

PHOTOGRAPHS of surgery being carried out on a horse's hoof and of an Egyptian fruit bat exiting its roost have been selected as the winning images in BVA's inaugural photography competition. More than 400 entries were received for the two categories – ‘You and your work’ and ‘The wonderful world of animals’.

Karen Coumbe, who has been a BVA member since 1996 and currently works for the Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic in Maidstone, won the ‘You and your work’ category with her photograph showing a partial ‘street nail’ procedure being performed on a horse under general anaesthesia to allow the removal of fragments of wood …
