Language competency legislation comes into force

LEGISLATION amending the Veterinary Surgeons Act to allow the RCVS Registrar to require EU nationals seeking to practise veterinary surgery in the UK to provide evidence of their language competency came into force on January 18.

The Veterinary Surgeons' Qualifications (European Recognition and Knowledge of Language) Regulations 2015 also give the RCVS Registrar the power to prevent someone from being entered on to the RCVS Register until they are able to demonstrate sufficient language ability necessary for their role.
