THE importance of maintaining funding for equine veterinary research and education following changes to the current levy system for horseracing has been highlighted in the House of Lords.
The Government announced in March that it intended to replace the Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) with a new funding model, the Horserace Betting Right, to close a loophole that allowed some betting operators to avoid making any contribution to horseracing by increasing their offshore and remote betting operations.
