THE continual, slow spread of serotype 8 of the bluetongue virus (BTV-8) in France and the spread of BTV serotype 4 (BTV-4) in Austria and possibly Slovenia ‘are no particular surprise, given the mild autumn’, according to the International Disease Monitoring (IDM) team at Defra.
