‘Many unknowns’ in French HPAI case

AN outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the Dordogne region of France does not significantly increase the risk to the UK at this time, but ‘there are many unknowns’ in the case and the situation will be kept under close review.

So said Defra's International Disease Monitoring (IDM) team on November 26 in a preliminary outbreak assessment of the case of H5N1 HPAI, which was confirmed by French authorities on November 24.
