IN a further tribute to Brian James Alps (VR, May 16, 2015, vol 176, pp 525- 526), Peter Darke, R. W. Else, P. R. Wotton and Freda Scott-Park write: Born in rural Cambridgeshire just before the Second World War, Brian Alps attended school in Soham. He left Soham Grammar School to work in his father's electrical business in Ely, having been on the ‘technical stream’, but later returned to study for university entrance. He always retained an interest in electronics, which was to influence his life considerably. R. W. E., who was five years his junior at school, gained inspiration from Brian in his efforts to attend veterinary school.
