Index ranks countries on animal welfare standards

ANIMAL welfare charity World Animal Protection has launched an ‘Animal Protection Index’ (API), in which it has assessed and ranked 50 countries on their animal welfare legislation and policy commitments to protecting animals. The charity says that the aim of the index is to highlight how the governments in the countries assessed can improve the lives of animals and, as a result, help reduce the risk of disease in people.
