THE Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) has welcomed amendments to the proposed European ‘animal health law’, which aim to increase the effectiveness of regular animal health visits by putting more emphasis on disease prevention and animal welfare.
The amendments were adopted by the European Parliament's Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) committee on February 11. The committee has been considering a proposal from the European Commission to consolidate some 50 basic directives and regulations and 400 pieces of secondary legislation governing animal health in Europe into a single new regulation – the so-called ‘animal health law’.
