Angiostrongylus vasorum is an emerging parasite in Great Britain that can cause cardiopulmonary disease in dogs (Morgan and Shaw 2010). Although mainly reported in southern England (Jones and others 1980, Simpson and Neal 1982, Cobb and Fisher 1990, Martin and Neal 1992, Chapman and others 2004) and Wales (Trees 1987, Patteson and others 1993, Otter and others 1997), there have been several reports of infection with A vasorum in dogs in northern England (Hayes and Rowlands 2004, Yamakawa and others 2009, Yates 2009).
