Reclassification of anthelmintics would require significant policy shift, says VMD

THE Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has written to the BVA in response to the Association's recent call for all anthelmintics to be reclassified as POM-V medicines (VR, February 9, 2013, vol 172, p 145).

In the letter, which is available on the VMD's website,, Peter Borriello, the agency's chief executive, says that anthelmintic resistance in grazing animals is of great concern and that the VMD welcomes the views of all stakeholders on how the issue could be addressed.
