Legal challenge against pilot badger cull fails

A LEGAL challenge against Defra's plans for a pilot cull of badgers in England to help to control bovine TB has failed.

The Badger Trust challenged the culling plans on three grounds – that the proposed cull would cause rather than prevent disease, that Defra's cost-benefit analysis underpinning the decision was flawed, and that the guidance given to Natural England, the body that will issue culling licences, was flawed. The case was heard in the High Court on June 25 and 26.
