THE Scottish Government claims that it has been successful in negotiations with the European Union over its plans for a proportionate cross-compliance system for the electronic identification (EID) of Scottish sheep.
Under European rules, all sheep must be electronically tagged, with lambs destined for slaughter before 12 months of age having to be tagged with a single EID tag, while sheep being kept beyond 12 months of age have to be double tagged, including one EID tag.
