Being a vet does not dictate a life spent solely in general practice. At this year's Association of Veterinary Students (AVS) congress, held in Liverpool from February 5 to 7, students were encouraged to consider the wide variety of alternative options available to them after graduation. These ranged from specialising in particular species or therapies, to influencing emerging treatments through research and engaging in global issues, such as food security and emerging diseases.
