Surveillance is an essential component of the fight against animal and human diseases. New approaches to detecting and assessing the prevalence of animal diseases were discussed at a meeting organised by the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) and the Institute for Animal Health (IAH). Held at VLA – Weybridge towards the end of last year, the meeting was intended to facilitate communication and collaboration between scientists, and brought together staff from the VLA and IAH as well as others from industry, government and academia.
