Official controls in slaughterhouses

IT is disappointing that in its ‘manifesto’ the BVA calls on the next Government to maintain the status quo for official controls in slaughterhouses. Currently, the responsibility for producing safe meat is shared between the food business operator (FBO) and Official Veterinarians (OVs). The FBO is required to only accept healthy animals for slaughter and is responsible for producing meat hygienically.
