Were inspections 'overdue' at zoo where keeper was mauled to death by a tiger?

POLICE and Huntingdonshire District Council are conducting a joint investigation into the death of a keeper at Hamerton Zoo Park last month.

Rosa King, 33, was mauled to death after a tiger got into an enclosure where she was working at the zoo in Cambridgeshire.

Reports soon after the incident on May 29 described the keeper's death as a ‘freak accident’ but details are unclear as to how the tiger got into the enclosure with Ms King.

Cambridgeshire Police said: 'Officers attended a serious incident at Hamerton Zoo Park, Steeple Gidding, at around 11.15am on Monday, May 29. A tiger had entered an enclosure with a keeper. Sadly the female zoo keeper died at the scene. At no time did the animal escape from the enclosure.'

Huntingdonshire District Council confirmed it was taking part in a joint investigation with the force into the exact circumstances.
