I WRITE in reference to the Comment ‘Optimising the value of VNs’ (VR, April 15, 2017, vol 180, p 366). The article recognised the vital role that veterinary nurses play in modern veterinary practice and the ways in which their roles can be better defined, and flagged up the fact that we will, imminently, be undertaking a consultation on this very subject.
However, I would like to clarify a number of points made in the article. First, it should be made clear that while veterinary nurses can undertake some of the activities mentioned, ‘ . . . run their own clinics, supervise unregistered support staff and provide treatments, vaccinations and dietary and lifestyle advice . . .’, this …
