NOW is the time for vets to take a proactive role in tackling hereditary diseases in dogs.
That is the view of Cathryn Mellersh, head of canine genetics at the Animal Health Trust.
Speaking at a press briefing organised by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association at the BSAVA congress earlier this month, she said greater public awareness of the problem and increasing pressure to address it meant it is appropriate to speak out now.
