EMA recommends suspension of drying-off drug

THE European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended that the marketing authorisation for the veterinary medicine Velactis (Ceva Santé Animale) should be suspended. The recommendation on July 15 follows reports of adverse events in 319 dairy cows following treatment with the product, which contains the active ingredient cabergoline and was authorised for use as an aid in the abrupt drying-off of dairy cows.
