Defra seeks views on the delivery of pet travel legislation

DEFRA, together with the Welsh and Scottish governments, is seeking views on whether the legislation governing the delivery and enforcement arrangements for the Pet Travel Scheme is meeting its objectives.

The consultation, which runs until October 27, forms part of a review of the Non-Commercial Movement of Pet Animals Order 2011 (as amended in 2014), which is being carried out to fulfil Defra's statutory commitment to Parliament to review the Order's effectiveness five years after the legislation came into force. In a letter accompanying the consultation document, Defra says that it has held regular discussions with a range of stakeholders over the past year on Pet Travel Scheme issues associated with the Order and that, in light of these, it has set a six-week consultation period, which will help it to meet a deadline for completion of the postimplementation review …
