SCOTLAND'S Rural College (SRUC) has announced that it is to retain veterinary surveillance facilities in Inverness and Ayr.
In June last year, SRUC outlined proposals to make changes to the network of veterinary disease surveillance centres (DSCs) in Scotland, including closing the Inverness DSC. It also proposed a number of options for the Ayr DSC, one of which was moving the centre to another location and transferring its routine laboratory testing work to the Dumfries DSC (VR, June 6, 2015, vol 176, p 583).
The proposal to close the Inverness DSC proved particularly controversial (VR, August 15, 2015, vol 177, pp 160, 161) and, in October, it was reported that plans to close the centre were to be ‘put on hold’ (VR, November 7, 2015, vol 177, p 454).
