IN tribute to Wilfred Lionel Gwyn Ashton (VR, April 2, 2016, vol 178, p 347), Jim Waterworth and Jill Nute write: Gwyn Ashton was the son of a village school master in Talybont-on-Usk, Brecon, with family connections to hill farming. He surprised the locals by his determination to become a vet, which he duly did via Bristol university. Gwyn had a varied career, mainly within the government veterinary services at Wolverhampton, Gloucester and Polwhele, Truro.
