IN tribute to William Currie Douglas Hare (VR, February 20, 2016, vol 178, p 195), Douglas Mitchell writes: Douglas Hare was born and raised in North Berwick, Scotland, and educated in Edinburgh. He completed his schooling at Edinburgh Academy before starting his veterinary programme at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 1942. He completed his veterinary degree programme in 1950 after serving in the army during the Second World War. He was wounded and captured in Normandy shortly after D-Day and was a prisoner-of-war until his release in 1945. Upon graduation he immediately enrolled in a PhD degree programme in the Department of Veterinary Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh, which he completed in 1953. He married Audrey Loch in …
