RCVS Council votes for governance reform

THE RCVS Council has backed proposals that will see the size of the Council reduced from 42 to a maximum of 25 members and introduce formal representation for veterinary nurses on the Council for the first time.

Because the constitution of the RCVS Council is specified in the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, the changes will require a Legislative Reform Order (LRO) to be drafted and taken through the parliamentary legislative process. The RCVS hopes that ‘all being well’, the LRO could come into force in March 2017.
