INVESTIGATIONS into an outbreak of highly pathogenic H7N7 avian influenza on a premises in Lancashire, which was reported on July 13, have suggested that contact with wild birds was the most likely source of virus. However, according to a report from Defra, a rare mutation event within the poultry premises resulted in a low pathogenic virus becoming highly pathogenic.
