‘Lancaster weekend’ develops an international flavour

A GROUP of students from the UK and Ireland who are studying veterinary medicine at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences were among the 170 students who attended this year's ‘Lancaster weekend’, which took place at the University of Lancaster from July 3 to 5. The SPVS/BVA/RCVS seminar for final year students, entitled ‘Your First Job: Challenges and Opportunities’, aims to help vet students find, enjoy and succeed in their first job.

The attendance by the Warsaw group demonstrated how influential word of mouth can be. They had heard about the seminar from a student who attended from their vet school in 2014, and who reported that what she had learned had been ‘really helpful’.

Already back in the UK and Ireland for the summer, the students made the trip to Lancaster with a view to getting a few tips on writing a good CV, finding out where best to look for a job, and making sure they were in touch and in a similar position to UK final-year students with whom they would shortly be competing …
