Spending cuts: Defra outlines its plans for the future

Statistics from

DETAILS of the settlement reached between Defra and the Treasury on departmental spending, savings and efficiencies were set out by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, in his Spending Review and Autumn Statement last week.

According to the Government, the settlement includes more than £130 million capital investment in Defra's science estates and equipment by 2020/21, protection of flood defence funding and £3 billion of investment to safeguard England's countryside through the Common Agricultural Policy, set against resource savings of 15 per cent in real terms by 2019/20, to be delivered through efficiencies within Defra and across …
