Antimicrobial resistance: ‘too important for uncoordinated approaches’

ORGANISATIONS across Europe and the rest of the world marked the first World Antibiotic Awareness Week, which ran from November 16 to 22, and European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) on November 18, by drawing attention to the importance of the responsible and prudent use of antibiotics in both people and animals.

In the UK, the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), which leads the UK Government's efforts on antibiotic resistance in animal health, encouraged veterinarians to again think about how they could continue to prescribe antibiotics responsibly. It continued to encourage vets to sign up to the Antibiotic Guardian campaign, at, to show their support for, and commitment to, using antibiotics responsibly and keeping them effective.
