150 years of the state veterinary service

OCTOBER 15, 2015 marked the 150th anniversary of state veterinary medicine in the UK. The first government veterinary service in the UK was established in 1865 with the formation of a Veterinary Department of the Privy Council, set up to deal with an outbreak of rinderpest which caused the loss of about 400,000 animals.
