Concern about online puppy sales

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is encouraging prospective dog owners to do their research before buying a puppy from an online advert, warning that they may unknowingly be supporting backstreet breeders. The charity reports that, in 2014, a quarter of the dogs given up to it had been bought from online or newspaper adverts. Some 279 of the 1364 dogs had been bought from well-known online classified adverts, 42 from newspapers and 48 from a stranger.
