BVA continues its support for pilot badger culls

THE BVA will continue to support the second year of the pilot badger culls in England, having been reassured by Defra's response to its call for improvements to be made to the effectiveness and humaneness of the culls. The decision was reached at a meeting of the BVA Council on July 23.

At its meeting, the Council was able to question the Chief Veterinary Officer, Nigel Gibbens, about how Defra intended to respond to the recommendations made by the Independent Expert Panel (IEP) in its report on the effectiveness, humaneness and safety of the pilot culls in Gloucestershire and Somerset last year.
