BVA past-president Peter Harlech Jones describes a recent Vet Peer Support Conference he attended at Liverpool vet school and the life-changing volunteer efforts taking place outside the classroom.
Following April's Young Vet Network (YVN) article ‘Graduate support and the Young Vet Network’ (VR, April 5, 2014, vol 174, p 362), I recently attended an outstanding conference organised by Liverpool vet school about its peer support scheme.
The scheme is unique in that it sets the undergraduate volunteers, as well as the people they help, onto a path to successfully manage the pressures experienced with such a demanding course (and profession) which, if unchecked, can lead to mental health issues.
